It is very feasible to run your own "link campaign" and in essence create your own "free" text link ads or "link backs". However, keep in mind that any resulting link-backs are not necessarily free as this technique takes a long time to organize and implement. This technique can also take longer as most sites that want to link back to your site will only do so if you already have a google PR and link to them from that page that has the PR. Also, keep in mind that the outbound links from your site can be perceived negatively if you are linking to a site that is "in a bad neighborhood". In other words, this strategy is a great supplement to buying text link ads, but it can be a bit risky if done wrong.
